INSPIRACIÓN

As it is pointed out in Volume II of the General History of Guatemala, the history of Verapaz begins in 1537 with a
secret pact between Friar Bartolomé de Las Casas, the Vicar of the Dominican convent in Guatemala, and the
Governor of the country. In this pact, the friar and two of his companions offered to “peacefully convert and
evangelize” the inhabitants of that territory, the Q’eqchi’ people.
