INSPIRACIÓN

Throughout their journey, several battles took place between the Spanish and the local population, including various clashes with the skilled Kaqchikel warriors. Their capital, Iximché, which means “place of many trees,” was named by Pedro de Alvarado in 1524 as the first city of Santiago, it was used as a military base andsubsequently burned to prevent any actions against the Spanish forces.
